Flashback to the All-Ireland final screening in Hoban's car park, Castlebar, in 2017.

Active discussions underway for public screening of Mayo match

ACTIVE discussions are taking place to host a public big screening of the All-Ireland final in Castlebar.

A number of options are being looked at, municipal district cathaoirleach Councillor Ger Deere has confirmed.

A similar event took place in the county town for the 2017 final, when Councillor Deere was involved, along with Mick Baynes and the Castlebar Live group, in organising a screening, with five town centre businesses coming on board with financial support to make it happen.

Councillor Deere confirmed that Castlebar Chamber of Commerce and himself were in contact with the council and Mayo GAA immediately after last Saturday's semi-final at Croke Park to look at organising a similar event for this year's final.

“A number of options are being discussed to make this a reality,” he said, as cathaoirleach along with his fellow councillors.

“A lot of Mayo supporters will be unable to get tickets to the match so as the county town we have to facilitate those fans from right around the county, and indeed the country, by showing the final on a big screen in a public area in the county free of charge. Hopefully we can make this happen.”

As cathaoirleach, he would be extending an invitation to all, Mayo fans and Kerry fans, to come to Castlebar and be part of what promises to be a very special occasion.
