Mayo ace Duffy facing fitness battle ahead of All-Ireland final showdown
Diarmuid Duffy is facing a battle to be fit for Mayo's All-Ireland SFC final clash against Kerry at Croke Park on July 26.
The Ballinrobe ace, who has played a prominent role throughout the campaign, is receiving treatment for a shoulder injury he incurred in training following the quarter-final victory over Cork, a game in which he replaced the injured Eoin McGreal after 12 minutes of the encounter.
Mayo manager described his situation as 'touch and go' in terms of his availability for the decider.
Cillian O'Connor is also doubtful after suffering a setback in his efforts to retain full fitness.
Darren McHale, the side's vice-captain, is already ruled out after undergoing hip surgery some time ago
Regarding O'Connor, Moran said: “We thought he was back and then he got a tiny bit of a setback. He is trying hard but there are no guarantees."
In relation to McHale, he manager explained: "We made that decision at the start of the year. We knew if he went for the surgery, he may not get back. We were both comfortable with the situation.
“I would say it is really tough for him on a personal level, but he has been an absolute champion for us behind the scenes. He has really bought into that role. It is tough for him being vice-captain.”
The good news is that both Paddy Durkan and Diarmuid O'Connor are available after recovering from injury setbacks.
