Reflections on another successful Bike Week across Mayo
Bike Week 2026 was another fantastic success in Mayo, with 735 participants taking part in 31 events across Mayo, including school cycles, community rides, bike repair clinics, inclusive cycling opportunities and family-friendly activities.
Schools accounted for 400 participants across 16 events, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for cycling among young people throughout the county.
The figures are compiled in the Mayo Sports Partnership's Bike Week Mayo 2026 report, which has been published following the completion of an evaluation process and the collection of feedback from participants, clubs, schools and community groups across the county.
Speaking about Bike Week 2026, Kieran Reilly, outdoor recreation officer for Mayo Sports Partnership, said: “Bike Week continues to highlight the many benefits of getting active through cycling. It is a simple, enjoyable and accessible way for people of all ages and abilities to improve their health and wellbeing while spending time outdoors.
“We are fortunate in Mayo to have outstanding cycling resources, from our greenways and scenic coastal routes to quiet rural roads and community facilities. It was wonderful to see so many people getting involved and discovering or rediscovering cycling in their local area.”
