Family business expands with new Mayo sports bar and venue
A NEW chapter begins for Ballina this week as Michael and Clair Carr officially open Carr's Irish Bar & Venue at 47 Garden Street, adding another destination to the town's growing hospitality offering.
Opening during Ballina Heritage Week, Carr's has been carefully designed as a welcoming traditional Irish bar where people can meet, enjoy live music, watch sport and experience the warmth of a classic Irish pub.
The opening this week marks another investment by Michael and Clair Carr, whose neighbouring venues, Bar Square, Time Square and Paddy Mac's, have become well-established parts of Ballina's social scene.
While each venue offers something different, Carr's has been created with its own distinct identity.
Located next to Bar Square and Paddy Mac's, Carr's blends traditional Irish hospitality with live entertainment and sport, creating a relaxed space where locals and visitors alike can enjoy everything from an afternoon pint to an evening of music.
The opening comes at an exciting time for the family business, following recent national recognition at the Irish Bar & Cocktail Awards, where Paddy Mac's was named Connacht Traditional Bar of the Year and Bar Square was crowned Ireland's Gin Bar of the Year.
Speaking ahead of the opening, Clair Carr said the family hopes Carr's will become another welcoming space for the people of Ballina.
“Opening Carr's is something we're incredibly proud of. We've always believed that pubs are about much more than serving drinks, they're places where people come together, catch up with friends, celebrate milestones and make memories,” she said.
“We wanted to create a venue that feels like it's always been part of the town. Somewhere with real character, great music, live sport and a warm welcome waiting for everyone who walks through the door.”
Michael Carr said the investment reflects their continued belief in Ballina and its future.
“We're very proud to continue investing in Ballina. The town has a fantastic sense of community and we're lucky to see that every day across our venues.
“Carr's is another step in that journey. Alongside Bar Square, Time Square and Paddy Mac's, we want to offer something for everyone, whether you're looking for a traditional pint, live music, great food, somewhere to celebrate a special occasion or simply a place to spend time with family and friends.
“We hope Carr's becomes another place the people of Ballina are proud to call their own.”
The opening of Carr's complements the family's existing venues on Garden Street.
Bar Square has recently expanded its programme of live music and community events while Time Square has evolved into a flexible venue hosting private celebrations, fundraising events and local initiatives. Next door, Paddy Mac's continues to preserve the character of a traditional Irish pub while welcoming generations of customers through its doors.
Together, the four venues create a unique hospitality offering in the heart of Ballina, providing spaces for food, entertainment, celebrations, live music, sport and community events throughout the week.
The Carr family said they are looking forward to welcoming both familiar faces and first-time visitors through the doors as Carr's begins its next chapter.
