West Mayo residents living in fear since speed limit along their road was increased

Residents living along the old Westport to Castlebar R309 roadway near Sheenaun have becoming increasingly concerned by vehicles excessively speeding at the location.

The speed limit was increased to 80kmph since the new N5 roadway opened three years ago.

The Connaught Telegraph has learned that residents are witnessing serious speeding by cars and motorbikes on a daily basis.

"We are tormented as they scream down past our houses.

"The sound alone would make your heart stop," a resident stated.

The matter has been reported to An Garda Siochána and a response is awaited.
