Mayo heatwave to end as temperatures drop by almost 10 degrees on Friday

THE spell of exceptionally hot weather across Mayo is set to come to an abrupt end on Friday, with temperatures falling by almost 10 degrees in some parts of the county.

After Thursday's highs of up to 30 degrees, Friday will be much cooler, although it will remain largely dry with a mix of sunshine and cloud.

Forecasters say a moderate to fresh northerly breeze will develop, making conditions feel considerably cooler than in recent days.

Daytime temperatures are expected to reach between 20 and 22 degrees across Mayo, with the warmest conditions in inland areas. Coastal locations will feel cooler due to the strengthening breeze.

Despite the drop in temperatures, Friday is expected to stay dry for most areas, providing favourable conditions for anyone planning outdoor activities.

Friday night will become cool with clear spells and temperatures falling to around 11 degrees.

Looking ahead to the weekend, settled weather is forecast to continue, although temperatures will remain close to average for mid-July rather than the exceptional heat experienced this week.

Saturday is expected to be mostly dry with highs of around 19 degrees, while Sunday will bring a mix of sunshine and cloud with temperatures recovering slightly to around 20 degrees.
