Mayo house bought under N5 road project still vacant three years on

A HOUSE near Castlebar bought under the N5 dual carriageway project remains vacant three years on from the road opening.

And, in the middle of a housing crisis, Councillor Ger Deere has asked what is happening with the property at Pheasant Hill.

He raised the matter at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council.

With eight or nine bedrooms, the property previously operated as a B&B and then functioned as an office during construction of the road, and Councillor Deere has asked why it remains vacant.

It is a blight and looks terrible in the middle of a housing crisis, he told council management, saying that it needs to be brought back into residential use.

Councillor Deere was told progress is being made, with an application from an approved housing body expected in the coming weeks.
