Mayo GAA star's mother gets proud Dáil mention as team wished well in All-Ireland final

Members of the Oireachtas have joined in extended good wishes to the Mayo senior football team the All-Ireland SFC final against Kerry on July 26,

Deputy Rose Conway Walsh said it is a minor miracle that Mayo is in the All-Ireland football final with so many of our young people being in Australia.

"Hopefully, after 75 years, we will have some good news, although it will be fairly difficult to get any focus from my Belmullet constituency office with Brenda O'Donoghue, Ryan's mum, concentrating on the football for the next week or so!"

In reply, Minister Dara Calleary stated: "All I can say is that if Brenda was in charge of the Mayo team, we would have won many All-Irelands.

"I absolutely mean that. I wish the team every success. It will be a great week and it would be an amazing achievement."

Minister Alan Dillon, a former team captain, wished the players, manager Andy Moran and all the supporters, every success.

"It will be a very exciting day and we hope they can deliver this time. I am sure we will end that 75-year famine," he added.

Dublin Central Labour TD Marie Sherlock said: "In the spirit of solidarity, as a proud Corkonian who is very proud to now call Dublin home, I extend my support to Mayo as well. They might just do it this time round."
