End in sight for long-running Mayo derelict hotel site saga
A contactor will be on site of the former Imperial Hotel in Castlebar within 12 months, The Connaught Telegraph has learned.
Work will commence on transforming the derelict building at the Mall into a business innovation hub.
The building project is expected to take 15 months to complete.
Local councillors are seeking a strong element in the design to preserve the property's Michael Davitt legacy.
A Part 8 planning application is due to be lodged later this year.
An updated cost plan for the development is being prepared by Mayo County Council.
Rhatigan Architects were appointed last year to provide a full scope of service from design, planning, tender, construction through to completion.
