The site at Ellison Street where the new housing development will be built after four derelict buildings were demolished a number of weeks ago.

Tender process for construction of 13 new Mayo town centre houses being prepared

Work is completed on the demolition of derelict buildings at Ellison Street in Castlebar.

Now Councillor Michael Kilcoyne has been informed that the tender for the construction contract is being prepared for issue in August for 13 units at the location.

Councillor Ger Deere stated that when the development is complete at Ellison Street that a plaque should be erected at the site to honour freedom fighter Ernie O’Malley.

He added that the elderly need prioritising in relation to housing as they cannot get a mortgage.

Councillor Cyril Burke requested an update on the current housing list to establish the exact numbers.
