‘Mickey Mouse' Mayo roundabout a recipe for disaster

A ROUNDABOUT in Castlebar has been branded a 'Mickey Mouse' piece of infrastructure.

It relates to the roundabout at Barrack Bridge, scene of several accidents.

“It's a Mickey Mouse roundabout,” Councillor Ger Deere told the monthly municipal district meeting.

People are cutting in short, and a few weeks ago a car went wrong, with a wall hit, and it was a miracle there weren't people walking there.

If a car hits the bridge again it will end up in the river, he warned.

“It's a recipe for disaster.”

Nearby, the roundabout at Lower Charles Street is not much better and is more a hindrance than a help to motorists, not to mention the danger it poses to pedestrians walking within close vicinity.
