Issues with Mayo village's active travel works raised with council

SOME concerns around ongoing works on the active travel scheme in Breaffy have been brought to the attention of council management.

They include tyre marks and grease on paving at the Cedars and Ashwood housing estates, the potential for flooding in a local landowner's field where 10 pipes are running into a drain that is almost full with vegetation, building material on verges creating a trip hazard, and the lack of bus shelters at the proposed bus stops in the village.

Local councillors raised the issues at the monthly municipal district meeting, with Councillor Michael Kilcoyne requesting a site meeting in respect of the potential flooding issue.

Councillor Cyril Burke raised the lack of bus shelters, saying they should be part of the scheme.

Members were reminded that the active travel scheme is still a live construction project and some of the issues raised will be picked up in snags.

At the moment, bus stops are set back but there is no room for shelters under this scheme. However, they can be looked at further down the line.
