Green and Red of Mayo hits No. 1 in the charts
THE Saw Doctors' 'Green and Red of Mayo' has hit No. 1 on the Spotify charts.
And it is also riding high in the top spot on the iTunes charts.
From Croke Park, and was that three times in Hastings MacHale Park yesterday evening, the iconic Mayo anthem is being belted out by fans at home and abroad, with 50,000 streams on Spotify.
'To Win Just Once' also features in the Top 20 on Spotify, while it occupies third spot on iTunes.
The band, on their social media, has extended their congratulations to the Mayo team on Sunday's win.
Written 34 years ago by our neighbours down the N17 in Tuam, the 'Green and Red' has become County Mayo's unofficial anthem.
And fans have been reaching out to the band on social media, with one suggestion by Peter Dunne on Facebook that would be an eternal treasure: 'Don't suppose you guys fancy releasing it on 7'' green and red vinyl? Just saying ...'
Meanwhile, a social media campaign is gaining traction calling for The Saw Doctors to perform at the Claremorris homecoming on Thursday.
