Homecoming celebrations move to east Mayo today

BALLYHAUNIS is preparing for its biggest ever party as it welcomes home its All-Ireland winning captain, Jack Coyne, Keith Higgins and the Mayo football team today.

After an epic evening yesterday in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park, the celebrations move to the Mayo captain's home town later today. Coyne enjoyed a brief pit stop in Ballyhaunis yesterday when the train bringing the Mayo team home pulled up at the local railway station.

Celebrations in Ballyhaunis get underway on Main Street from 4 p.m., with music before and after the team's arrival.

As the town prepares to celebrate its heroes, Main Street has been closed to all traffic since 9 a.m.

Traffic is again expected to be heavy in the area as fans flock to continue the celebrations.
