Pressure to push back start of Mayo GAA club championship fixtures

Moves are afoot to push back the start of the Mayo GAA club championships by a week.

The opening rounds of the county's senior, intermediate and junior series were due to get underway on the weekend of August 8 and 9.

Now in the aftermath of the All-Ireland SFC final success and the subsequent homecoming celebrations, clubs have made representations to the Mayo GAA competitions control committee to review the matter.

A decision on the matter is expected to be made imminently.
