Mayo team set to visit south and east Mayo as part of homecoming celebrations
THE All-Ireland football winning celebrations are heading to south and east Mayo.
The Mayo senior football team will be arriving at Claremorris GAA Club this afternoon at approximately 4 p.m., followed by a visit to Charlestown and then concluding today’s celebrations in Ballaghaderreen.
The team’s visit to Claremorris is a family-friendly event and there will be strictly no alcohol permitted at the GAA grounds. There will be only two points of entry: main gate, adjacent to Hillside Service Station, as well as the laneway next to Electric Skyline (beside the tennis club.)
The Charlestown homecoming will take place at Barrack Street at approximately 5.30 p.m. Barrack Street will be closed to all traffic after 3 p.m. Additional parking will be available at Fr. O’Hara Park. Those accessing the town from the Ballymote Road are advised to use the N17.
The celebrations in Ballaghaderreen will begin in The Square from 5 p.m. with live music before and after the team’s arrival. The players’ arrival is expected at approximately 7 p.m.
There will be road closures in Ballaghaderreen from 2 p.m. and they are as follows: The Square will be closed to all traffic; Sligo Road closed at cathedral car park; Dublin Road closed at the end of Barrack Street; Main Street closed at Brian Mulligan’s Furniture Store.
People attending any of the homecoming events are advised to follow the instructions of An Garda Síochána and stewards at all times.
