Work gets underway on Mayo town centre regeneration investment

Work has got underway on a significant urban regeneration development at Main Street in Castlebar.

Jackita Limited, a company headed by local pharmacist and businessman Pat Staunton, secured planning permission last August for the demolition of an existing derelict two-storey building and construction of a new mixed-use building at the location.

Now construction workers have moved onto the site to prepare it before building a state-of-the-art healthcare centre.

The new development will also consist of four apartments, two at ground level and two and first floor level.

Scaffolding has been erected along along the site frontage as part of the preliminary works.

The project, which will contribute to rejuvenating the county town's traditional core after years of decline, will take several months to fully complete.

Mr. Staunton is expected to outline further details on the major investment in due course.
