Mayo club remembering Ted Webb on 50th anniversary of his death

THE Ted Webb Cup final will take place today (Saturday, August 1) at Dawn Meats Ballyhaunis GAA grounds as the community commemorates the 50th anniversary of the passing of Ballyhaunis and Mayo senior footballer, Ted Webb, writes Mike Byrne.

Meanwhile, to mark the 50th anniversary of Ted’s tragic death in 1976, a special Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church this morning at 11.30 a.m.

The 50th anniversary of the passing of Ted Webb is a milestone which carries special significance for the Webb family, the local GAA club and the wider community.

Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Dan O’Mahony, former player and brother of the late John O’Mahony, who played alongside Ted for the Mayo team. All of Ted’s deceased team-mates and management from the Mayo Under 21 All-Ireland winning team of 1974 will be remembered in a special way at this celebration.

Refreshments will be served afterwards in the nearby community hall.

All members of the public are most welcome to come along to the celebration.

The Shield final gets underway at 12.30 p.m., with the Cup final at 2 p.m.
