Mayo student's 1,400km cycle for dementia and Parkinson’s charities

THREE Irish students are preparing to embark on an epic 1,400-kilometre cycling challenge from Munich to Ireland to raise vital funds for Parkinson’s Ireland and the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. Dubbed An Bealach Fada (The Long Way), the gruelling 12-day journey kicks off on August 14.

The trio includes Mike Heaney from Claremorris, Emmett Judge from Drogheda and Milosz Kozielec from Tallaght.

Carrying their own equipment, they will pedal through Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, and France before catching the ferry home to Irish soil.

The team has already raised over €2,700 before even turning a pedal, with 100% of the proceeds split evenly between the two neurological health charities.

"We have to get home somehow; all the better if we can help people while doing so”, said Emmett. "It’s gonna be hard, cycling over 110km every single day for nearly two weeks, but the support we’ve seen from everyone so far has been unreal and it really keeps us going” added Mike.
