THE death has occurred of Sr. Mary Murphy (Mary Kate), Sisters of Mercy, Árd Bhríde, Castlebar, and Manor Court, Westport Road, Castlebar, and formerly of Aughleam, Blacksod, Belmullet.
Sr. Mary was a devoted member of the Sisters of Mercy and touched many lives in a positive way over the years, and fond tributes are being paid online to her following her passing.
One recalled: 'I had the pleasure of knowing her for many years, and witnessed her work as one of the first palliative nurses in Mayo. Her care and kindness was exceptional as she prepared her patients for their final journey. I'm sure they will all be waiting to welcome her into her new Heavenly home. Rest in peace lovely lady.'
'Sr. Mary was a saint on earth for all the people whose lives she touched in such a positive way. Her caring and compassionate nature endeared her to everyone,' said another tribute.
Another reflected on the legacy she left through her work: 'I had the pleasure of meeting her almost 29 years ago when she worked for the hospice. I have never met her after that but she left a lasting impression on me, she was so kind, compassionate and caring to my mother. She definitely has earned her place in heaven.'
Sr. Mary is reunited in her heavenly home with her parents, Sabina and Pat, brothers John Christopher and Paddy, sister-in-law Isobel, her niece Maureen and the deceased Sisters of Mercy.
