All-Ireland title sealed by young Mayo golfers
Ballina Golf Club have captured the All-Ireland Boys' Inter-Club golf title at Moate G.C.
The Mayo team finished four points clear of Cliftonville in closely run contest.
Richard Doherty’s charges returned to the final having finished fifth when last qualifying in 2023.
There was no stopping them on this occasion, however.
Ríain McLoughlin, Patrick McLoughlin, Dara Gaughan, Ben Scully, Adam McAndrew and Tom Moran combined for a 121-point tally to seal the prestigious crown.
Speaking afterwards, Doherty said: “We set ourselves a target in terms of scoring, but the guys actually came in over what we had hoped and fortunately it was enough to get the job done.
“They’ve all played from when they were really young and the triumph is a culmination of all that."
Elsewhere, Co. Sligo ended a 14-year wait for All-Ireland glory when Gerry McManus’ side claimed their first Fred Daly Trophy victory since 2012 following a brilliant performance against Galgorm Castle.
Kanturk claimed the Girls’ Inter-Club title with a combined total of 71 Stableford points, while Clontarf defeated Monkstown to claim the Boys’ Foursomes pennant.
