Passing of 'true character' Jimmy Ruane grieved in Mayo
The death of Jimmy Ruane, Rowan Drive, and formerly McHale Road, Castlebar, is deeply mourned in the county town.
He died in the excellent care of the staff of Galway University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Jimmy was a baker by trade and worked in the former Lavelle's and Gavin's bakeries.
Widely described as a true gentleman, he was big into fishing and also loved his golf.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Margaret (née Ronayne), son Connor, daughter-in-law Lorraine, cherished grandchildren Tuiren and Saorla, brother Frandie, sisters Ann Gannon, Martha Gregory and Cáit Gillard, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents Frank and May Ruane (née Nash), brothers Mickey, Johnny and Pake, and sisters Essie, Mary, Sally and Josie.
Warm tributes are being paid to him on social media.
"Spent many happy hours in his company playing golf in Mulranny and Castlebar, always such good company and fun to be with," one stated.
Another said: "A lovely man, a true character and a gentleman. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him."
Jimmy will repose in Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 7.30 p.m.
The funeral will arrive at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Saturday for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. followed by cremation in Shannon Crematorium.
