Fears over planned Mayo fuel price increases are allayed
The government has confirmed the planned increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel will now "not go ahead" in September and October, RTÉ News is reporting.
Earlier, Mayo Sinn Féin Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh confirmed her party had asked the Taoiseach to recall the Dáil in order to stop planned increases in the price of petrol and diesel beginning from September 1.
She said her party leader Mary Lou McDonald has written to the Taoiseach requesting that the Dáil be recalled so that the financial resolution necessary to stop the increases can be passed through the House.
Ongoing uncertainty abroad and protests at home led to the coalition agreeing in April to a cut of 32 cent on a litre of diesel and 27 cent on a litre of petrol.
