Over 1,900 Mayo students set to learn Leaving Cert results online
The State Examinations Commission (SEC) has extended congratulations and best wishes for the future of all Leaving Certificate candidates whose results are being issued online this morning.
From 10 a.m., 1,749 Leaving Certificate and 163 Leaving Certificate applied students from Mayo will be able to access their provisional results through the SEC’s Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP) here.
Candidates can view their provisional results and will also be able to print a statement of their provisional results.
Schools will be able to access results for all of the candidates in the school through the SEC’s Schools Portals.
School authorities have been asked to make arrangements to support candidates receiving results today.
The chairperson of the State Examinations Commission, Ms. Jacinta Stewart offered her congratulations to the Leaving Certificate class of 2026:
“Today is a significant day for the thousands of young people across the country who took their Leaving Certificate examinations this year. I, along with my fellow commissioners, wish to extend our sincere congratulations to every candidate receiving their results this morning.
"I wish to acknowledge parents, guardians and other family members who have played a significant role in supporting candidates through their examinations.”
Ms. Stewart made particular mention of young people receiving results today in the inaugural year of the Senior Cycle Level 1 and Level 2 Learning programmes tailored to students with complex learning and development needs.
“This is a momentous occasion for these young people who until now have been unable to access the Leaving Certificate Programmes.
"Today, an inaugural group of over 300 young people, are receiving their results in the Senior Cycle Level 1 and Level 2 Learning Programmes, and having their achievements recognised, alongside their peers taking the other Leaving Certificate programmes.
"The SEC is proud to have been involved in this initiative undertaking a new role of validating schoolbased assessment to certify achievement."
In relation to the Leaving Certificate post marking adjustment, the SEC’s task in 2026 was to continue with the gradual removal of the post-marking adjustment which began in 2025.
Ms. Stewart said: “Following extensive analysis and exploration of options, our consideration led us to select a final adjustment which delivers the best set of outcomes to deliver on the commitments made to reduce the post marking adjustment in a gradual way.
"Results, in the aggregate, are just above 2020 levels.
"The SEC has been cognisant of minimising the impact on candidates to the greatest possible degree ensuring that there is no cliff-edge in terms of a return to pre-pandemic outcomes.”
Ms. Stewart concluded by stating: “The successful delivery of the State examinations requires extensive planning and the collaborative work of thousands of school personnel including teaching staff and special needs assistants, school leaders, principals, deputy principals and also the many thousands of teachers who give their service to the SEC each year to examine and superintend the State Examinations. I would like to sincerely thank everyone involved in this year’s undertaking.”
The SEC will provide further detail in due course regarding the arrangements for the release of the 2026 Junior Cycle results however we expect that the results date will be in line with last year.

• A total of 70,411 candidates are receiving Leaving Certificate results this year; 65,326 candidates followed the Leaving Certificate (Established) programme, and 4,779 candidates followed the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme. The Senior Cycle Level 1 and Level 2 Learning Programmes were assessed for the first time this year. A total of 306 students in 78 schools are receiving their results.
• It is notable that there is an increase in the overall cohort compared to 2025 with an increase of 7.6% overall; up 7.2% in Leaving Certificate Established and up 6% in Leaving Certificate Applied.
• This is a record number of candidates. Overall, LC numbers have increased by 15% since 2024.
• In the Leaving Certificate established 470,277 individual results are being issued, 94% of which are in subjects marked through the SEC’s online marking system. For 2026, Leaving Certificate Polish and Junior Cycle Classics and some of the larger Leaving Certificate Applied subjects were marked online for the first time.
• In line with the overall increase, most subjects have increased cohorts this year most notably, Technology (+21%), Religious Educations (+20%), Physical Education (+25%) and Computer Science (+10%).
• Ukrainian was examined for the first time in 2025, and this year was its second examination. The examination was provided within the overarching policy context of the access to education provisions of the Temporary Protection Directive (2001/55 EC). Ukrainian was the largest non-curricular subject provided by the SEC again this year with 647 candidates, followed by Romanian with 506, which is also in line with last year’s trends.
• Another significant change this year has been the implementation of the interim additional time arrangements under the RACE Scheme.
• Results in both the Leaving Certificate and the Leaving Certificate Applied have been subject to the application of a post marking adjustment following the normal examination marking processes.
• Changes were introduced from September 2022 under the programme of Senior Cycle Redevelopment to the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme which relaxed the subject specific demands for candidates to take the Links Modules examinations.
The number of candidates taking Links Modules has increased again this year by 12.2% from 20,509 in 2025 to 23,012 in 2026. This represents a 79% increase in candidature since 2023.
• Also, under the programme of Senior Cycle Redevelopment, there is now access for Leaving Certificate Applied candidates to Leaving Certificate Established Mathematics and Modern Foreign Languages examinations.
In 2026, 131 LCA candidates sat Leaving Certificate Established subjects which compares to 44 LCA candidates in 2025 (and 16 candidates in 2024).
These candidates will receive an Integrated Statement of Provisional Leaving Certificate Results through the Candidate Self Service Portal, which will include both LCA and Leaving Certificate Established results, as well as an integrated final certificate in due course.
