Parke impress in Mayo IFC encounter in Glenamoy
Parke were hugely impressive in storming to a 3-18 to 0-4 victory over Cill Chomáin in an Egan Jewellers Mayo Intermediate Football Championship clash in Glenamoy on Saturday evening, writes Brian Gillespie.
The visitors to north Mayo from the centre of the county swarmed like bees against their opponents from the off and never allowed them get into any sort of rhythm throughout the hour's play on a pleasant evening in Erris.
Dominant from the throw-in, Parke had 2-2 on the scoreboard before Cill Chomáin troubled the umpires, Cian Donohoe and Matthew Kelly with the goals.
On 24 minutes, at 0-2 to 2-3 behind, the hosts appeared to have found a route back into contention as the Parke 'keeper, Conor McDonnell, spilled a high delivery with the sun in his eyes. Lorcan Mason collected the loose ball and put it into the back of the net, but he had scooped it off the ground illegally and a free out was awarded.
It was that sort of evening for the home side.
By half-time the visitors were 2-5 to 0-2 ahead, and any hopes of a let-up after the break were quashed quickly as they started the second half confidently too, substitute Cathal Keaveney's two-pointer on 37 minutes easing them into a 12-point lead (2-8 to 0-2).
Another two-pointer quickly followed courtesy of Darragh Neary and a goal from the hugely impressive Cian Lynch just into the final quarter sealed the deal.
Ronan Carolan came off the bench late on and promptly added three points, and by the end Parke had a 23-point winning margin (3-18 to 0-4).
It was a great response by Parke after having lost to Kiltane at home in the first round. Parke will now be hoping Kiltane do them a favour tomorrow when they host Hollymount/Carramore, who defeated Cill Chomáin themselves in round one, albeit by a much narrower margin.
There's plenty to play for in Group 1 yet, with both the Parke v Hollymount/Carramore and Kiltane v Cill Chomáin games in round three to be played in neutral venues.
