Central Mayo clubs make their mark on the championship

Just two games were played in the Connacht Gold Senior Football Championship on Sunday, and both were rewarding for central Mayo clubs.

Breaffy made the journey home from Tallagh on Sunday afternoon with two vital championship points in their back pockets following a hard fought 0-15 to 1-8 win over Belmullet in Group 4, keeping their perfect record intact.

They still aren't guaranteed a place in the knockout rounds, but Breaffy have fate in their own hands heading into round three.

In Clogher, Ballintubber kicked 15 second-half points to see off a Mayo Gaels side who were right in the game until the final quarter.

It finished 1-23 to 2-13 in favour of 'Tubber, who showed great composure in front of goal throughout the contest.

Meanwhile, there were four games in the Egan Jewellers Intermediate Football Championship – one in each of the four groups.

Kiltane took command in Group 1 with a 1-20 to 0-14 victory over Hollymount/Carramore in Bangor; Ballyhaunis were 1-13 to 0-12 winners at home to Castlebar Mitchels B in Group 2; Lahardane defeated Louisburgh in Bofeenaun on a scoreline of 0-18 to 1-12 in Group 3; and Ardnaree showed no ill-effects from the trip to Islandeady as they left with a 5-14 to 1-9 victory in Group 4.

Elsewhere, the results in Sunday's Treanlaur Catering Exclusive Junior Football Championship were as follows: Group 1 – Ardagh 3-12, Killala 1-13 and Ballycroy 1-19, Achill 2-16; Group 3 – Ballycastle 2-6, Kilmovee 3-19 and Eastern Gaels 6-18, Swinford 0-15.
