New €4.5m. Diagnostic Imaging Centre in Mayo set to officially open

The official opening of Alliance Medical’s new €4.5 million Diagnostic Imaging Centre in Castlebar takes place on Friday, September 4.

It will be performed by The Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Alan Dillon

The facility is significantly expanding access to advanced diagnostic imaging services for patients across Mayo.

The new purpose-built, multi-modality centre provides MRI, CT, Ultrasound and X-ray services under one roof, helping patients access high-quality diagnostic services closer to home and reducing the need to travel to Galway for routine imaging appointments.

The facility has been put in place by Alliance Medical Diagnostics Imaging Ltd (AMDI).

AMDI noted that Mayo is underserved in diagnostic imaging, with some Mayo residents having to travel to Galway and Sligo to access its services.

The new centre is designed to help address this gap by improving access to essential diagnostic care locally.

The site in Castlebar was chosen for its proximity to Mayo University Hospital and for being Mayo’s largest population town, allowing the service to reach the greatest number of residents.

Helen Calvey, Director of Strategic Growth, Alliance Medical, said: “As someone from Achill Island and who originally began their career in Mayo University Hospital, this is a very proud moment.

"Alliance Health’s new Castlebar imaging centre, will bring advance diagnostic imaging closer to home, helping patients across Mayo get the medical answers they need sooner and to get on the treatment pathway quicker.

"I am so delighted to be associated with this important investment in healthcare for county Mayo.”
