Historical drama to take place in Mayo arts centre

Wilderland Productions will be bringing its show The Reincarnation of Cornelius Agrippa to the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, on Thursday, September 3.

The play is set in 1519 in the city of Metz, France, where the notorious Cornelius Agrippa achieves the impossible in court, defending a woman accused of witchcraft against the Inquisition and securing her acquittal. It is believed that it the only trial that the Inquisition ever lost.

Cornelius Agrippa was a soldier, scholar, doctor and rumoured sorcerer, and his name echoed around Europe. Now, over 500 years later, he has returned, to defend the condemned again.

The play, already touring Ireland since late 2024, unfolds across two gripping acts. The first reimagines Agrippa’s legendary trial, with arguments drawn directly from historical records. The second explores the devastating consequences of his defence, both for Agrippa and those around him. Told from the present day, the story blurs past and present, with the audience themselves drawn into the mystery of why Agrippa has returned.

The show at the Linenhall starts at 7.30 p.m. and tickets cost €16 per-person.
