Mayo sadness over death of 'wonderful woman' Maureen Fitzsimons

The death of Maureen Fitzsimons (née Joyce), Clogher, Westport, and formerly of The Curragh, Castlebar, is deeply regretted in the community.

Maureen passed away peacefully in the exceptional care of the Pilgrims Rest Nursing Home, Westport, following a long illness.

She will be sadly missed by her devoted husband Michael, daughters, Muriel (USA), Maura (Claremorris), Helen (Sligo) and Deirdre (Westport), sons-in-law Dean Matsuura and John Killeen, 15 grandchildren Michael, Sinead, Deirdre, Megan, Robert, Pearse, Sean, Jane, Mark, Ruth, Kate, Luke, Sara, Elisabeth and Liam, sister Nancy McKnight (Galway), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Maureen was predeceased by her parents William and Mary Ellen Joyce, young daughter Sinead, sons-in-law Tom Bradley and Frank Martin.

Many fond tributes are being paid to the deceased on social media, where she was described as 'a wonderful woman.'

Reposing in Navin's Funeral Home, Westport, on Friday from 5 p.m. with removal at 6:30 p.m. to St. Mary's Church, Westport.

Requiem Mass for Maureen will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Maureen will be laid to rest afterwards in Kilmaclasser Cemetery.
