Mayo set for wet and unsettled weekend as rain sweeps across county

Mayo is set for a largely unsettled weekend, with rain and showers expected to feature on both Saturday and Sunday.

According to the latest forecast from Met Éireann, Saturday will begin cloudy and wet, with widespread rain affecting the county and some heavy bursts possible.

The rain is expected to gradually clear eastwards through the morning and into the early afternoon, with some brighter spells developing afterwards.

However, showers will remain possible through the remainder of the day.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 17 to 19 degrees, with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds.

Saturday night should bring some clearer spells initially, although cloud will increase later with more frequent showers developing across western areas.

Sunday is also expected to get off to a cloudy and wet start, with rain spreading northeastwards.

Some of the rain could be heavy and possibly thundery before gradually clearing during the day.

The afternoon should see some sunny spells developing, although scattered showers will continue. Temperatures will reach around 15 to 18 degrees, with moderate to fresh winds.

Met Éireann is currently forecasting a distinctly changeable pattern into next week, with lower pressure expected to dominate and further spells of rain likely across western and northern coastal areas.
