Sadness over death of popular Mayo pilates teacher and physiotherapist

The death of Nelvis Diaz Cuevas, Balla, and formerly of Westport and Cuba, has evoked great sadness in Mayo.

Nelvis will be greatly missed and remembered with love by her heartbroken husband Javier and daughter Alejandra, her brother Hector, sister Zaida, brother-in-law Moises and his wife Nayra, father-in-law Paco, mother-in-law Maribel, her work colleagues, many great clients at her clinic and wide circle of friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Warm tributes are being paid to her on social media.

One said: "I am heartbroken to hear the news of Nelvis' passing. She was such a vibrant, fun, positive woman with a fantastic sense of humour.

"She helped me through the most physically difficult and painful years of my life through her rehab, pilates classes and unwavering support. She was gifted in her practice."

Another stated: "I definitely wasn't and will never be A+ at pilates but it didn't stop her encouragement, passion and enthusiasm. She was so positive about life. Always smiling."

"You had such a gift for putting people at ease, whether in your pilates classes, your massages, or simply your company — and that gift, and your beautiful soul, will be so deeply missed."

Nelvis will repose in Navin’s Funeral Home Westport on Wednesday morning from 11 a.m., proceeding to St. Mary’s Church, Westport, at 12:30 p.m. for Requiem Mass at 1 p.m.

Burial takes place afterwards in Aughavale Cemetery.
