Alliance Medical opens new €4.5 million Mayo diagnostic imaging centre

Alliance Medical today officially opened its new €4.5 million Diagnostic Imaging Centre in Castlebar, representing a significant investment in healthcare infrastructure for Mayo and creating 11 new jobs in the local community.

The new facility strengthens access to advanced diagnostic imaging for patients across the region, bringing faster, high-quality diagnostic services closer to home.

Officially opened by Alan Dillon, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, the Castlebar centre marks a major milestone in Alliance Medical’s continued investment in community healthcare.

By expanding access to advanced diagnostic services within Mayo, the centre will help reduce the need for patients to travel to Galway or further locations for routine imaging appointments, while supporting earlier diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.

The purpose-built, multi-modality centre brings together MRI, CT, Ultrasound and X-ray services under one roof, combining advanced imaging technology with local clinical expertise in a modern outpatient setting.

The investment also supports more sustainable healthcare through the installation of helium-free MRI technology, reducing environmental impact while delivering world-class diagnostic imaging to communities across Mayo.

Speaking at the official opening, Alan Dillon TD, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment said: “This is exactly the kind of investment we want to see in Mayo, creating new local jobs, strengthening our economy and giving patients and families better access to essential healthcare services closer to home.

“Most importantly, this centre will make a real difference in people’s lives. It demonstrates strong confidence in Mayo as a place to invest, grow and deliver high-quality services, with lasting benefits for the entire community.”

David Dooley at Alliance Medical, added: “Today marks an important milestone for Alliance Medical as we continue our investment in delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging services within local communities.

"Our new Castlebar centre reflects our belief that patients should be able to access world-class diagnostic imaging closer to home, supported by the latest technology and expert local clinical teams.

"By investing in Mayo, creating new jobs and expanding access to MRI, CT, Ultrasound and X-ray services, we are making it easier for patients to receive the answers they need sooner while supporting better health outcomes across the region.”

Alliance Medical has been a trusted provider of diagnostic imaging services across the west of Ireland for many years through its established centres in Galway and Sligo. The opening of the Castlebar facility represents a natural extension of that commitment, bringing the organisation’s expertise directly into the heart of Mayo.

The centre is staffed by experienced radiographers and a dedicated patient-focused administration team, with all scans reported by local, Ireland-based, RCSI-accredited Consultant Radiologists. Supported by integrated digital healthcare systems, the services ensure expert clinical reporting, seamless collaboration with referring clinicians and faster access to results.

The Castlebar Diagnostic Imaging Centre joins Alliance Medical’s nationwide network of more than 40 clinical locations continuing the organisation’s long-standing investment in improving access to advanced diagnostic imaging across the Island of Ireland.
