€80,000 in new capital funding for Mayo’s eight family resource centres

THE announcement of €80,000 in new capital funding for Mayo’s eight family resource centres has been welcomed by Fine Gael TD Keira Keogh.

The funding forms part of a new €1.36 million investment announced by Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley, with each of the country’s 136 family resource centres receiving €10,000 in 2026.

Said Deputy Keogh: “Our family resource centres are at the heart of communities right across Mayo, and I am delighted to see €80,000 going directly to our eight centres in Ballina, Ballinrobe, Kilmovee, Castlebar, Claremorris, Ballyhaunis, Westport and Erris.

“What is particularly welcome is the flexibility in this funding. Each centre knows its own community best and can decide where this €10,000 will make the greatest difference, whether that is improving accessibility, refurbishing premises, purchasing equipment, upgrading technology or making energy-efficiency improvements.

“As chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Children and Equality, I see the importance of early intervention and ensuring families can access support within their own communities. Family resource centres provide exactly that kind of practical, local support.”

Deputy Keogh added: “This comes on top of the increase in minimum annual core funding for family resource centres from €160,000 to €180,000 under Budget 2026, as well as the expansion of the national network to 136 centres.

“I want to thank the staff, volunteers and boards of our eight Mayo centres for the enormous contribution they make to children, families and communities across the county.”
