Man caught speeding twice on the one day in Mayo gets driving ban

A man caught speeding twice in one day in Mayo has received a driving ban.

Michael Lawrence, Fortlawn Drive, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, failed to appear before Ballina District Court.

Sergeant Fiona Farrell said attempts to contact Lawrence at his Dublin address were unsuccessful. She said gardai who called to the home were informed by family members that he no longer lives there but they were unable to provide full details of an alternative address.

The man’s son told gardai that he would ‘pass on the message'.

Judge Vincent Deane said he suspected an attempt is being made to avoid a prosecution and he directed that the case proceed in Lawrence’s absence.

The court heard that Lawrence’s vehicle was detected speeding by static cameras at two different locations on the N5 on June 1, 2025.

The first offence occurred at 9 a.m. at Lislackagh West, Swinford with the man’s car was detected travelling at 120km per hour in a 100 k.m. average speed zone.

Later that day, at 8.38 p.m. in the evening, a camera picked up Lawrence driving at 115km per hour in a 100km zone at Culmore East, Swinford.

Judge Vincent Deane disqualified Lawrence from driving for six months and fined him €200.
