Forty-three new homes proposed in north Mayo development

PLANS for a significant housing development in north Mayo are before Mayo County Council for approval.

The development proposed at Logmore, Belmullet, is for 43 new homes.

An application for planning permission has been lodged by developer Jonathan Lavelle.

The mix of house types proposed is two 2-bed semi-detached bungalows, eight 3-bed detached bungalows, thirteen 4-bed detached two-storey dwellings, fourteen 4-bed semi-detached two-storey dwellings and six 3-bed terrace two-storey units.

The proposed development has been designed to provide a range of dwelling house options, close to Belmullet town, on a site located within the 50km/h speed limit. The lands are currently zoned ‘residential’.

A design statement submitted to the council sets out how the site is a prime location for dwelling houses, within walking distance of schools and a creche. A range of options have been offered to ensure accessibility/availability on equal terms for people of a range of ages, physical mobility, requirements, life stage and financial status.

At present Belmullet's housing demand outweighs the supply, as is the case in most towns, and further dwelling units are in demand.
