Mayo viaduct closes for lighting project works

THE viaduct in Newport is to close for a number of weeks from next week.

Works on the installation of the Newport viaduct Dark Skies-friendly lighting project are scheduled to commence on Monday, September 14.

The viaduct will be closed to pedestrians for the duration of the works to ensure public safety, Mayo County Council has advised.

Works are expected to take three weeks to complete.

Alternative pedestrian routes will be signposted.

The project is part of an overall plan to make Newport Ireland's first Dark Sky friendly town.
