Yellow rain warning issued for Mayo

A Status Yellow rain warning has been issued for Mayo, with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms expected overnight.

Met Éireann has issued the warning for Mayo, along with Donegal, Galway, Leitrim and Sligo.

The warning comes into effect at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 11, and remains in place until 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 12.

Met Éireann is forecasting a spell of heavy rain during the warning period, with thunderstorms also possible.

The weather warning carries the potential for localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions, while lightning damage is also listed among the possible impacts.

People travelling overnight or early on Saturday are being advised to take extra care, particularly in areas affected by heavy rainfall.

The warning is currently due to end at 9am on Saturday, with conditions expected to gradually become drier thereafter.
