Mayo native makes debut for Sligo Rovers seniors

Mayo native Reuben Gillespie made his debut for the Sligo Rovers senior team in their SSE Airtricity Premier Division game away to Drogheda United on Friday evening (September 11).

The former Ballina Town and Mayo SL player was introduced as a second-half substitute in a game that ended in a 2-0 defeat for the Bit o' Red, who are in deep relegation trouble at the foot of the table.

Gillespie (19) joined the Rovers Under 15 team in 2022 and has progressed through the age groups since. He is currently a regular in the Rovers Under 20s, who play Mayo FC in a League of Ireland Academy game next Sunday (September 20).

Another Mayo native, former Westport United player Conor Cannon, was on the bench for Rovers on Friday evening. Cannon, a prominent figure in the Under 20 team, has been a regular in the Bit o' Red's senior set-up this year.
