Civic reception to be held for Mayo's All-Ireland champions

MAYO'S All-Ireland champions are to be accorded a civic reception next week.

The event to formally recognise the Mayo senior team's achievement in winning the Sam Maguire will be hosted by Mayo County Council on Friday, September 25.

Discussions are taking place with the county board and final details will be confirmed soon, elected members were told at their monthly meeting in Castlebar.

Cathaoirleach Councillor John Caulfield, who proposed the reception, said winning the All-Ireland and the weeks that have followed since have been the highlight of the summer. He wished to see the reception held at the earliest opportunity.

His proposal was seconded by Councillor Damien Ryan who also hailed the team's fantastic achievement.

It was important to also recognise the work council staff undertook over the All-Ireland weekend and days after, said Councillor Donna Sheridan, and they should be invited as well, she suggested.
