Family's plea to bring Mayo dad (39) home to India

THE community is rallying round a Mayo family following the death of their 39-year-old dad and husband.

Shan Mathew, from Castlebar, died suddenly in his sleep while awaiting heart surgery.

Now, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise funds so that Shan's wife, Deepthi, and their children can bring his body home to Kollam, Kerala, India, so family and friends can gather for his final burial.

There has been an outpouring of support, with over €37,000 raised to date.

Family friend Jijo Mathew, who is also a distant relative of Shan's wife, on the online fundraising page, said Shan’s passing has left his children, parents, family members, relatives, and friends heartbroken.

At this incredibly difficult time, the family is facing the additional financial burden of funeral arrangements and the cost of bringing Shan home to India, where his loved ones can say their final goodbye and lay him to rest.

Said Jijo: “We are humbly asking family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, and the wider community to support Shan’s family during this heartbreaking period. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference toward covering the funeral and repatriation expenses.

“If you are unable to contribute financially, we kindly ask that you share this fundraiser with others.

“Your prayers, kindness, and support mean so much to Shan’s children and family at this time. All funds collected will be transfered to Deepthi George's bank account to help her with the funeral expenses.

“May Shan Mathew’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find strength and comfort in the love and support of everyone around them.”
