Update on Kenya school project inspired by Mayo mountain hikers

In August 2024, Mayo natives Paula Halpin Cannon, Kathleen Barry, Orla Hughes, Triona O’Malley, Ellen Sanders, Clare Sanders, Mags Gallen, and James Armstrong scaled Mount Kenya to raise money to build a secondary school in Kenya.

The Climb was in aid of TABS International, (Together Achieving Believing Sustaining) a charity founded by the late Rachel Sanders in 2007. Rachel’s daughters Ellen and Clare were part of that momentous fundraising Mount Kenya climb in 2024.

It was an important fundraiser as it meant that the children in the project’s primary school, Springs TABS School, can have a future by continuing their education in secondary school.

The fundraising team raised €20,000 from their climb of Mount Kenya.

Moses Njoroge Nganga is the project manager of the current primary school, which was founded and supported by TABS International.

Moses Njoroge Nganga will be visiting Mayo on Wednesday, September 30, and Thursday, October 1, where he will meet the many supporters of TABS International to say thank you and to give firsthand updates of how the primary school and the development of the secondary site is progressing.
