World premiere of Achill Sound to take place at Mayo arts centre

Following on from their sold-out shows over the past number of years in the Linenhall Arts Centre, the Castlebar Musical and Dramatic Society (CMDS), in association with Big Splash Productions, returns with ‘Achill Sound’, the world premiere of a brand-new comedy thriller by local playwright Ken Armstrong.

In ‘Achill Sound’, Elaine, an interviewer for the National Study in Rural Isolation, spends her days driving the lonely roads and visiting farms in deepest Mayo. In one remote location, she meets someone who may change her life forever!

Ken Armstrong’s plays are known to audiences as being laugh-out-loud funny, with the occasional dash of violence, and heartfelt emotion. All of this and more can be expected in this latest production.

The play will feature a host of CMDS’ most accomplished and award-winning acting and singing talent including Eamon Smith, Donna Ruane, Vivienne Lee, Ronan Egan, Eithne McGreal, Eimear Philbin, Caoimhe Halligan, Ewa Cieslak, Nicole Scott and pianist Deirdre Lee. It will also see the Irish debut of director Kenn McLaughlin. Kenn McLaughlin has enjoyed a long and distinguished theatrical career in the United States which included 25 seasons with Stages Houston where he oversaw over 100 productions and directed over 30 shows. His role as director of this new play is very exciting for all concerned.

Castlebar Musical and Dramatic Society hopes you can join them at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, on Thursday, October 1 or Friday, October 2 - at the earlier starting time of 7.30 p.m., for what promises to be a noteworthy theatrical event.
