Mayo man remanded on bail over alleged drugs and driving offences

A man has appeared before Castlebar District Court charged with alleged drugs and driving offences arising from two separate incidents earlier this year.

Jack Devoy (26), Apartment 3065, The Residences, Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, faced the charges before Judge Vincent Deane.

Garda Martin Friel gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. He told the court three charge sheets related to an incident on September 11 last, with a further six arising from an incident on May 15.

The court heard that on September 11, 2026, at the Oaks, Castlebar, Garda Friel arrested Devoy on suspicion of a drugs offence.

He later charged and cautioned him, and while putting the charge to him, Devoy replied that the drugs were "for his own use."

Garda Friel said he then charged Devoy with a further offence, to which he made no reply.

He told the court Devoy was further charged with offences arising from an incident on May 15 at Pontoon Drive.

The May 15 charges related to no insurance, failure to produce a driving licence and driving without a licence.

Jack Devoy was also charged with using a vehicle at Pontoon Drive, Castlebar, on which the excise duty had not been paid.

Court presenter Sergeant Fiona Farrell told the court Devoy had other matters listed for October 7.

Judge Deane asked whether any of the charges required directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Sergeant Farrell said the drugs charge was under Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. Garda Friel said the drugs seized were worth an estimated €300.

The DPP directed summary disposal of the case.

Judge Deane accepted jurisdiction and remanded Devoy on bail to October 7, with disclosure to be furnished to his solicitor, Gary Mulchrone.
