Funeral arrangements announced for Mayo GAA chairman Seamus Tuohy
The funeral arrangements have been announced for Seamus Tuohy, Doogary, Breaffy, Castlebar, who died unexpectedly yesterday at the Galway Clinic.
He is greatly mourned by his heartbroken wife Marie, daughter Shona and son-in-law Peter, son Evan and daughter-in-law Amy, his adored grandchildren Ave, Aedamar and Isla, brother Tommie, sisters Mary, Claire, Helen and Brid, brothers-in-law, uncle Jimmy, aunt-in-law Nell, nieces, nephews, cousins and a wide circle of family and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.
Seamus will also be deeply missed within the GAA community where he had a lifelong involvement.
He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Claire Tuohy, sister Christina, aunts and uncles.
Seamus will repose in the Dr. Michael Loftus Room, McHale Park, Castlebar, on Friday from 4 p.m. with removal at 7.30 p.m. to his residence. House is private.
Removal from his residence on Saturday at 1.30 p.m. for Requiem Mass at 3 p.m. in St. Aloysius Church, Breaffy, followed by burial afterwards in Breaffy Cemetery.

In a tribute, Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary has expressed his deep sadness at Mr. Tuohy's passing.
He said: “I am deeply saddened at news of the untimely passing of Seamus Tuohy, a man who gave so much of his time and expertise in public service, both in a professional capacity within the HSE and as a lifelong volunteer of the GAA.
“Seamus was a passionate community and GAA man. A proud Breaffy clubman, his involvement with the Association spanned decades and saw him serve Mayo GAA in a number of roles before being elected as chairperson in 2021.
"He carried the responsibility of leading Mayo with commitment, dignity and deep sense of pride in the county. He was an ever-present at games, meetings and events across the county, always conscious that the strength of the GAA lay in its clubs, its volunteers, its players and the communities they represented.
“He led Mayo through some challenging times, but also through moments that will live forever in the history of the county, not least in bringing Sam Maguire to Mayo after a 75 absence just a few short weeks ago.
"It is impossible to separate Seamus from that historic achievement yet his legacy will be much more than trophies. It is about the people he worked alongside and the clubs he supported, the players and management teams he encouraged and the volunteers whose contributions he understood and valued dearly.
“For those who knew Seamus personally, there will be memories beyond the boardroom and the sideline – memories of a solid friend, colleague, clubman and proud Mayo man.
"There will be many tributes in the days ahead but perhaps the greatest is that he gave so much of his life to the GAA and to Mayo. Thankfully, he got to see Mayo finally lift the Sam Maguire in July and see his life’s work come to fruition.
“To Marie, Shona and Evan, to his grandchildren and his extended family, his clubmates in Breaffy and friends across Mayo, I extend my deepest sympathy. Mayo has lost a proud son, a dedicated GAA servant and a man who gave enormously to the county he loved. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.”
