Mayo CCTV group to hold public launch night

A new community-led group hoping to bring CCTV coverage to Foxford, will hold its official launch night and public meeting on Wednesday, September 30, at 7 p.m. in The Moy Hotel, Foxford.

The Foxford CCTV Committee has been established by local residents in response to concerns about crime and antisocial behaviour in the town, and the need for additional security measures.

The proposed system aims to support An Garda Síochána in its investigations, reassure residents and businesses, and help create a safer environment for everyone living in, working in or visiting Foxford.

The committee plans to roll out the initiative in phases, starting with the town centre before looking at extending coverage to surrounding areas.

Wednesday's meeting will see the committee introduce the project, outline its objectives, explain how the system will operate and discuss the funding required to bring it to fruition.

Details will also be given on how residents and businesses can support the project through its fundraising campaign.

Speaking ahead of the launch, the Foxford CCTV Committee said the town has a shared interest in staying a safe place to live, work and visit, and that the initiative is about the community coming together to take a proactive approach on safety.

The committee said its success will depend on local financial support, and urged as many people as possible to get involved.

Local public representatives and members of the business community have also been invited to attend and learn more about the project.

Admission to the meeting is free and all are welcome.
