Mayo Football League appoints Oscar Traynor team manager

The Mayo Football League has secured the services of Michael Horan in the role of Oscar Traynor team manager for the upcoming campaign.

Reacting to his appointment, Horan said: “I am honoured to have been invited to manage the Mayo Oscar Traynor squad for this year’s competition.

"The management team will include Paul Byrne (coach) and Dave Cameron (physio), with others to confirm shortly.

“We are looking forward to working with the players from the various clubs in the county. We certainly have a lot of quality players to work with.

“It is a knockout competition this year, so the focus will be on the home game against Galway at the end of October.

“I am very conscious that there is an exciting conclusion to this year’s Super League, the Super Cup final, and the Connacht Cup competition will be kicking off over the coming weeks, so I will be respectful of the players' and clubs' workload and commitment to those competitions.

“We will circulate an invitation to the clubs in the coming days for players to join an extended panel.

"The initial gatherings will be team meetings to get the players acquainted and set out our plan for the competition.”

The manager outlined that the load on players will be light initially but will gather momentum as the Galway game approaches.

Welcoming Horan to the role, Mayo Football League chairman Gerry Sweeney stated: “Michael is a very experienced and a well respected manager throughout the county and I would like to wish him and his backroom team the very best.

“I would also like to encourage all clubs to fully support the efforts of the management team in getting the best players in the league to represent the county in the tournament.”
