Smell from sewer impacting residents on Mayo street

RESIDENTS and businesses on a Westport street are suffering a pong from the town sewerage system.

It's an issue on Mill Street in the town and their plight has been raised with the council by Councillor Johnny O'Malley who said the sewers need to be flushed out.

The council used to flush them but he doesn't think it has happened for a long time, and now the people on Mill Street have complained about the smell of sewerage in their properties, he told a municipal district meeting.

“It's not fair that they have to put up with the smell of sewerage in their homes because the system isn't cleaned out,” said Councillor O'Malley, and they have asked if anything can be done to flush out the system.

He was told the sewer is in the control of Uisce Éireann but the council will check it out.
