History-making boxer Natalia is feted by Mayo local authority

Castlebar Municipal District has honoured Natalia Fasciszewska with a civic reception in recognition of her outstanding achievements in boxing.

Natalia brought huge pride to Castlebar when she represented Ireland at the European Under-23 Boxing Championships in Budapest and came home with a fantastic silver medal in the 57kg division.

Speaking after the event, Councillor Harry Barrett said: "To reach a European final at just 20 years of age, and on her first time representing Ireland at this level, is some achievement.

"It was also great to meet Grace Bailey, who has been enjoying terrific success of her own in the ring recently.

"Two talented young women from Castlebar Boxing Club doing themselves, their families, their club and the whole town proud."
