Mayo walking festival delegation to be represented at major German event
Castlebar International Four Days Walks is set to be represented at the two-day walking festival in Fulda, Germany, this weekend.
The director of the county town annual walks, Rowena Gillespie, heads a five-strong delegation for the popular event which attracts over 4,000 enthusiasts from all over Europe and further afield.
Fulda is a member of the International Marching League and has been in existence since 1996.
The other members of the Castlebar travelling party are Oisín Herraghty, Martin Moylette, Tommy Gannon and Tom Kelly.
Rowen and Oisín, who took over the leadership of the Castlebar International Fours Days Walks a number of years ago, hold the distinction of reaching the South Base Camp on Mount Everest, a feat they achieved last November.
During their time in Germany, they will be promoting the 60th anniversary of the Castlebar festival next July.
