Mayo SFC: Mitchels reach decider with victory over neighbours Breaffy

Castlebar Mitchels are back in the Mayo GAA Connacht Gold Senior Foorball Championship decider for the first time in nine years following a 1-16 to 0-14 semi-final victory over neighbours Breaffy, writes John Melvin.

Mitchels 'keeper Rory Byrne made a big catch over his own crossbar to deny Breaffy goalie Jack Livingstone a two-pointer in the closing stages of the game, played in Fr. O'Hara Park, Charlestown.

Had that Livingstone free been successful, the contest would have been in the melting pot in the final few minutes.

However, late points by Bob Tuohy and Anthony O'Boyle in the five minutes of injury time sealed the win for Mitchels, who can now prepare for a first final since completing three wins in a row back in 2017.

Mitchels – who were leading 1-11 to 0-7 at half-time, Joe Forry with the goal – await the meeting of Garrymore and Belmullet in Ballina tomorrow (Sunday, October 4) to see who they will face in this year's decider.

For Breaffy, the wait for a first ever Mayo senior title goes on.
